THE WAY IT USED TO BE

by Stan C. Countz

You used to be a warm place to come home to
You used to want me as much as I wanted you
You used to be someone I could talk to
Whatever happened to the way it used to be?

It used to be the sun rose and set in your eyes
It used to be we never told each other lies
It used to be we didn’t need no alibis
What happened to the way it used to be?

When I loved you and you loved me
It seems, these days, we've lost our dreams
But I can't throw it away so easily
Can we get back to the way it used to be?

You used to welcome me with open arms
You used to shower me with all your charms
Now we’re roomies so please do me no harm
Whatever happened to the way it used to be?

Maybe one day we can learn to respect each other again
One day we can accept that we are little more than friends
Maybe one day we can return to the way it used to be….
Way back when

When I loved you
And you loved me...
Can we get back
To the way it used to be?

DOCTOR, WHAT'S WRONG WITH ME?

by Stan C. Countz

Doctor, what's wrong with me?
Are my eyes too blind to see?
Why can my ears no longer hear
The cries of the lost and dying?

Has my heart grown cold?
Have my eyes grown old?
Have I sold my soul
For a pot of gold?

Doctor my ears have heard the lies
And the hollow alibis
Of the mindless masses
Oh, please heal me if you can

Doctor my eyes have seen the truth
Through the skewed views we call news
Through rose-colored glasses
My head is buried in the sand

Doctor my heart has come apart
And I need a brand new start
Before my life passes
So take me by the hand

Doctor my eyes can’t stop their crying
For a lost and dying world
Can we save it before it crashes?
Try to save our dying land

My ears can’t keep from hearing
And my fears keep reappearing
I keep taking these classes
But I still can’t understand

Doctor my heart needs to start caring
And stop comparing myself to others
To stop airing my dirty laundry
And start caring for my brothers

My mind is reeling so out of control
I need more than just a gut feeling
More than a quick fix or opinion poll
I need healing for my mortal soul

PRIDE GOES BEFORE A FALL

by Stan C. Countz

Who cares how long you plan to live
It’s in His hands, it’s all been heard
If you can’t love or if you can’t give
He has a plan and it’s in His Word
Fear God and keep His commands
For this is the whole duty of man
So take His nail-scarred hand
and soon you will understand

Now here is the end of the matter
I don’t mean to be intervenin’
Don’t mean to be demeanin’
There’s nothin’ sadder than
Climbin’ a ladder that’s leanin’
Leanin’ against the wrong wall
Take heed if you stand lest you fall
I hope you catch my meanin’
Take His hand and heed the call
One day you’ll understand
We’re buildin’ bridges instead of walls
It never works out just like we plan
‘Cuz pride goes before a fall
Pride goes before a fall

If you’re up against the wall
And you need to heed the call
Hit your knees and call on Him
Humble yourself and pray
Confess your pride right away
And obey the Spirit’s call
Take heed if you stand lest you fall
Take His hand and heed the call
And build bridges instead of walls

And don’t forget to remember
That it’s never as easy as it seems
We all have our hopes and dreams
Just make sure your heart is pure
He’ll try to lure you into his web
Don’t forget what the Good Book said
Because pride goes before a fall (3x)

TREASURES IN HEAVEN

by Stan C. Countz

My mind is full; my heart is achin’
Everything that can be, will be shaken
So make sure___ that you’re ____
Not mistaken

Store up for yourselves treasures
In heaven where they can never___
Rust or corrupt or be taken
He will never allow
His children now
To be forsaken

Blessed is the man
Who makes the Lord his trust
Who stores up treasures
that can never rust

We must seek His kingdom first
And we must hunger and thirst for His righteousness
So just speak the word and be assured that I’ll be healed
And your glory shall be revealed

Eye has not seen
Ear has not heard
What you’ve prepared
For those who love your word

As the sky is high above you
So your ways are higher than mine
But I will always love you
Until the end of time

You’ll stick closer than a brother
So let your light so shine
They’ll know you’re mine
By the way you love one another

The Shoes of the Great Physician

by Stan C. Countz

V1
We were trapped___ in our sins and trespasses
‘Til He took our rap and He took our lashes
He went way___ beyond the call of duty
We traded our ashes…for His beauty

V2
By His stripes we’ve been healed
By His Spirit, we’ve been sealed
He is our sword and our shield
and His glory will soon be revealed

PRE-CHORUS
We are called to be just like our master
To see opportunity in every disaster
To be teachers, priests and pastors
We are the sheep, the sheep of His pasture

CHORUS
Who will go for Him? Who will He send?
He sticks closer than a brother
He’s no fair-weather friend; who will He send
To fill the shoes, the shoes of the Great Physician?
So share the Good News with those who choose to listen
Let’s be fishers of men and fulfill the Great Commission
Let’s be men and women who are on a mission
To fill the shoes, the shoes of the Great Physician

V3
Upon this rock will He build His kingdom
And the gates of Hell will not prevail against it
We will not all die; in the blink of an eye
Don’t think it strange if you’re changed in an instant

BRIDGE/PRE-CHORUS
“He who is not for Me is against Me,” He said
But no one comes to the Father ‘less the Spirit brings them
Give us this day our daily bread and help us seek His kingdom
And all these things will be added unto you
Blessed are you when men curse and revile you
It’s not the world outside you that hurts and defiles you
It’s the enemy within; so turn away from your sin
Don’t let the serpent continue to beguile you

CHORUS

OUTRO
By His stripes we’ve been healed; by His Spirit, we’ve been sealed
Every tongue shall confess and every one shall kneel at His feet
And we’ll walk on golden streets in the shoes of the Great Physician
In the shoes, the shoes of the Great Physician…
